Android’s Google Search app has recently been altered to include a widget called ‘Google Now’. The widget performs a plethora of tasks, including showing small versions of important search cards on the home screen.

The Google Now widget, recently added to the home screen, sports the option of taking up the entire screen in order to display local weather alerts, appointments for the day, a stock ticker, breaking news headlines and much more! If the full screen display is not desirable, the widget can be easily and conveniently re-sized to show only basic weather and forecast information.

Devices running Android 4.1 or later can upgrade to the improved Google Search app as soon as they choose! Some may even be lucky enough to get a glimpse of the new ‘Google Doodle’ feature. Some Android owners who run Jelly Bean have reported seeing a nifty new ‘optimized’ version of  the current Google Doodle as the background of the search bar instead of the old, boring mountain background. Unfortunately, it seems to be hit and miss as to who is actually able to see the new backdrop.

Other features included with the upgrade are: Fandango movie pass capabilities, Zillow real estate listings, and the ability to identify ambient music. All in all, the Google Now update provides a pretty hearty upgrade that will likely be welcomed with open arms by users running Android 4.1 or above!
