iOS Maps Fly Over vs. Google Earth 3D Buildings


In case you didn’t know, the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 no longer has Google Maps. Instead, Apple has created its own Maps app which has a feature called Fly Over. Fly Over is very similar to 3D Buildings (which is only available on the Android version) on Google Earth. In the video below, I show you the difference between the two while loading up a 3D rendering of the Las Vegas strip:

As you can see, Fly Over on iOS Maps looks a lot more realistic than 3D Buildings on Google Earth. The 3D rendering of the buildings on Fly Over look close to what the buildings look like in real life, whereas the 3D rendering of the buildings on Google Earth look a bit cartoonish. I will say however that there is more detail on Google Earth’s 3D Buildings, showing you things like the Bellagio’s water show and allowing you to get a closer look at the buildings themselves.
