We recently did a drop test comparison between the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. And unlike the Galaxy S3, the iPhone 5 came out of it alive (and in relatively good health). So, we decided to take it to the next level of testing. How, you ask? By scratching it with our keys, with a giant knife, and then smashing it with a hammer to finish it off. How did the iPhone 5 do? Both the glass on the front and the aluminum on the back of the iPhone 5 held up very well when being forcefully scratched with car keys and a giant knife. And the screen didn’t crack like you’d expect it to when we continuously slammed the hammer on it. However, the side edges did scratch relatively easily during the knife test. But overall, we have to say we’re impressed with the durability. So much so, that we decided to take the durability test to the next level.
