Chrome vs. Internet Explorer vs. Safari – Mobile Browser Benchmarks
There are three major mobile platforms right now, two of which that are very popular (Android and iOS), and one that has a fighting chance (Windows Phone). All three platforms will offer up a great web browsing experience, whether you’re using Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Safari. But which one is the best? Well, before we can answer that, we have to define what being the best is: the fastest and most compatible browser. Okay, so here are the benchmarks:
BrowserMark Benchmark Scores (higher is better):
- Chrome (Android): 114,263
- Safari (iOS): 86,929
- IE9 (Windows Phone): 32050
Sunspider Benchmark Scores (lower is better):
- Chrome: 1624
- IE9: 6671
- Safari: 2233
HTML5 Test Scores:
- Chrome: 371
- IE9: 138
- Safari: 324
As you can see from the benchmark scores, Chrome outperformed both Internet Explorer and Safari on all three tests. Safari was closely following, coming in second on the benchmark tests. And Internet Explorer, just like its respective platform, lagged behind coming in last place on every benchmark. So, what do these benchmarks tell us? That right now Chrome on Android offers you the best web browsing experience available on a mobile phone!
Note: The three phones used in these benchmarks were the Galaxy Nexus (for Android), the iPhone 4S (for iOS), and the Nokia Lumia 900 (for Windows Phone).
