How To Delete An App (for Android)

Can’t figure out how to delete all those apps you’ve been downloading from the Android Market? No problem. Just follow this step by step guide to remove (or uninstall) any app you no longer want on your phone.

Note: This is only for third party applications (the ones you actually downloaded from the market). To learn how to delete a stock app, go here.

There are two different methods to delete an app from your phone. We’ll cover both here.

Uninstall an app through the settings menu:

  1. From your home screen, press menu>settings.
  2. Scroll down and find “applications” and click on it.
  3. Then click on “manage applications.”
  4. Scroll down to the app you want to remove, then click on it.
  5. Press the uninstall button to delete the app from your phone.

Delete an app from within the Android Market:

  1. Open the Android Market.
  2. Hit menu, then go to “my apps.”
  3. Scroll through the list and find the app you want to remove, then click it.
  4. Press the uninstall button to delete the app from your phone.

Hey thank you very much. I was getting angry because I couldn’t delete these 3 apps and I didn’t use them.

But how do i delete an app that I have downloaded without installing it?

    • David Rahimi

I’m too sure what you mean by that. If you haven’t installed it, it won’t be on your phone in the first place. Unless you downloaded an .APK from another source other than the Android Market. In that case, you’d delete it from your phone’s download folder.

can someone plz tell me how do i delete an app that i had downloaded earlier..whenever i try deleting it, the app only gets uninstalled but not get deleted completely, like if i browse that file again it says “install” instead of “download”… so i presume that the app is still somewhere present in my phone and my market account… Can someone please HELP ME with this with a proper procedure detailing!

The reason why you’re seeing the “install” button instead of “download” is because the app is in your Google accounts app history. Unfortunately Google doesn’t give us a way to clear the account’s app history, but don’t worry the app is not installed on your phone, just linked to your account.

What if I dont wish to have the program linked to my Google account any more.
Is there a way to delete the app completely, not just uninstall it?
